I was in a car accident yesterday.

I was on my way home after heading up to get the survey map for my property. I was driving south on I-684 near Mount Kisco in the middle lane. There was a car next to me in the left lane. The driver decided to merge into my lane without looking. To avoid getting hit, I swerved my car. I lost control, spun out and hit the guard rail twice.

The spin out was like something you’d see in a movie. I could not get control of the car. It all happened in a matter of seconds. At some point, I realized I had to stop doing anything with the wheel and just let the car finish doing whatever it wanted to do. And in that moment, I felt so helpless. I really thought I was going to die or at best, break bones.

I didn’t even get a scratch. Cops came, took my documents, gave me an accident report and helped me make a U-turn (because yes I ended up facing oncoming traffic while stuck in the shoulder) so I could drive home. The car was drivable.

The car is not so good. Well, I mean, considering how bad the impact felt, it’s

actually not so bad:

Took it to the collision shop recommended by my insurance this morning. They told me this afternoon that the current estimate to repair is $4,100 but will go up with some incidentals. I don’t even think my car is worth $6,000. Good thing my deductible is only $500.

Pretty sure this is the first real accident I’ve been in where I’ve been behind the wheel.

I was in shock. I think I’m feeling better. I couldn’t get my mind out of being in the car while it was spinning out having no control over what the outcome was going to be. I really thought I was going to die.

Had a hard time falling asleep last night. Every time I nodded off I felt like I was falling asleep at the wheel so I’d jerk awake again. So I’m really tired right now. Yesterday was supposed to be my day off to rest and recuperate. Not lost on me that it was also my wedding anniversary. How weird would it have been if I died on the wedding anniversary of the marriage that failed?

Oh that driver that caused the accident? Nothing happened to them. Kept driving, not a care in the world, not a scratch. I succeeded in not getting hit by them. Idiot was probably completely oblivious to all the trouble they caused.

Anyway, trying to rest. Oh, closing date has been set. June 3rd. I’ve ordered internet and tv installation for soon after and am slowly starting to plan other stuff. Looking to take advantage of Memorial Day savings.

I feel so drained, B.
